PUBLIC MISSIONS & PROGRAMS
COMMUNITY DAY AT HEARTLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Experience your community college campus and everything it has to offer at Beyond Buildings Community Day, Saturday, September 18, 9am-3pm at Heartland Community College.
Join us for a variety of FREE academic & community education classes throughout the day. Explore your creative side with classes in drawing, cooking, fishing and social dance. Go BEYOND the ordinary and participate in astronaut training, poetry writing or 3D art. Bring your family & friends to share in a day packed with learning, fun, entertainment, food and more.
Classes are first come/first served - no registration required. Classes meets for 40 minutes at 9 am, 10 am, 1 pm or 2 pm. Family fun and entertainment will take place on the Quad. The Bygones will perform at Noon. There are many activites for kids and adults including: multi-cultural activities and demonstrations, balloon artist, caricature artist, child-safety activities, athletic challenges, food and more!
Visitors can tour campus on a trolley bus as well as fish in the pond.

The Challenger Learning Center is excitied to provide two science & space programs:
- Astronaut Training 101 (9:00-9:40 and 1:00-1:40): Ever wonder what it is like to be an astronaut? During this mini course train like an astronaut as you learn about rocketry, experience the side effects of microgravity, east some space food, and find out what's in store for future explorers!
- Sun, Earth, Moon and Stars (10:00-10:40 and 2:00-2:40): Our Solar System takes up a very small portion of the universe, but it is critical to our survival. Come to the CLC for this mini astronomy course as we look at the formation of our Solar System and beyond.

ENCOUNTERING COMETS! SCIENCE 1076
Have you ever wondered about comets and what the Challenger Learning Center is all about? Maybe you have had an opportunity to observe a space mission, but not participate. Come to the Challenger Learning Center for an evening of discovery and exploration as we learn about comets and our solar system. Once our pre-mission activities are complete, we will set out on our own simulated space mission to Rendezvous with a Comet. This out-of-this-world experience is open to all children and adults with a 5th grade reading level or higher. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

MOON, MARS & BEYOND SCIENCE 1077
Only 12 men have landed on the Moon. But at the Challenger Learning Center 28 astronauts will land on Mars! Come to the Challenger Learning Center for an evening of space exploration as we study the similarities and differences between the Moon and Mars. Once our pre-mission activities are complete, we will set out on our own simulated space mission to take a Voyage to Mars. This "going where no man (or woman) has gone before" experience is open to all children and adults with a 5th grade reading level or higher. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Attention all 3rd - 5th grade Harry Potter fans! It's a day of fun and wizardry when the Challenger Learning Center presents The Magic of Harry Potter. Come join us as we learn about the science behind Harry Potter, sample Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, grow your own Mandrakes, create hidden messages, try and capture the dragon, and even whip up a potion or two! Be ready to review past storylines and plots as you prepare for the movie release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows - Part 1!
